Project Bell 222

Follow the progress of my latest project as I build the Vario Bell 222.

The Big boxes, one skyfox kit, one Rossi 67 engine kit & a   Bell 222 fuselage kit.

The Skyfox parts, all laid out for inspection.

The kit includes fibreglass rotor blades.

 starting with the main frames.

 add some transmission bits

The main gearbox builds into a very compact unit

The mainshaft is a hardened 10mm dia affair supported on 2 ball races with a large thrust race to take the axial loads.

the swashplate is a nice all metal job.

main gearbox, mainshaft & swashplate all fitted & runs nice & smooth.

  washout mixer arms are ballraced.

The engine kit comes complete with all the bits to fit the engine to the frames & includes the exhaust header & tuned silencer.

The engine is the Rossi 67, by all accounts a very powerful engine with lots of torques & all done without nitro in the fuel.

a steel clutch running against a proper ferodo clutch lining  should make for a long lasting reliable unit.

Engine clutch & cooling fan ready to be installed.

It's a cosy fit for that Rossi.

A pile of radio gear all ready to go in.

Four servo electronic CCPM mixing really holds the swashplate solid but moves smoothly

Fuel tank & mounting brackets, the tank holds 500cc.

Tank fitted to main frames provides a handy shelf for the receiver to sit on.

Tail rotor gearbox is equipped with metal gears.

Tail rotor blade grips are dual ball raced & thrust raced all on a metal hub .... very nice.

Tail gearbox assembly is very smooth to rotate & the pitch mechanism is smooth & slop free.

Main rotor head is dual ballraced & thrust raced, with plastic hub &  blade grips.

with all the linkages fitted it all moves very smoothly.

the exhaust system is a special unit designed for use in a scale fuselage.

so to fit it to the Skyfox I made a bracket from carbon fibre strip.

mechanics all built up & ready for setting up & test flying.

nose canopy is a very large piece & comes ready to fit.

      all ready to go !!!
