Project Panic

Follow the progress of my latest project as I build the Avicraft Panic.

Starting (Fuselage)

The Big BOX

Contents of the box, a beautifully presented kit with foam wings & traditional balsa fuselage.

Tail plane & rudder are made up of several pieces all taped together ready for a splash of cyano to secure them.

After a quick splash of cyano & a good sanding they are ready for covering (note that the leading & trailing edges are left square, leading edges to create drag & trailing edges to prevent flutter)

Fuselage sides prepared.

& glued together making sure that I have a left & right side.

Corner reinforcements added it's now time to join the fuselage together.

All joined up ready for "Carving & sanding to a pleasing shape".

A very pleasing shape ( note the fuse now will stand on the cabane struts indicating that sufficient wood has been removed from the tail end ).

A wire tailskid is added to eliminate fuselage wear when flying from tarmac strips.!

Front undercarriage held on with saddle clamps & screws.

It stands well on it's wheels, the engine mountings are screwed into the bulkhead.

So that the engine can be mounted useing a aluminium plate bolted to the rear of the engine with the rear cover screws.

Note the engine is angled so the exhaust goes down the middle of the cabane struts.
